Marie D. Lewis has been involved in art all of her life.  She has an A. S. Degree in Apparel Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, a B. S. Degree in Marketing and Distributive Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and a M.S. Degree in Human Resource Development from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. 

She and her husband Ron, are previous owners of McDonald’s of Beaufort and Lady’s Island and co-owned the Sea Island Furniture Mart where she was the Director of Home Staging and Redesign.  She also was the owner and executive director of the Sea Island Conference and Training Center for over ten years.  Along with her art, Marie currently is a consultant for various organizations and has conducted seminars and workshops in Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management. Business Entrepreneurship, Hospitality Management and all areas of Management Development for more than 30 years.

Some of Marie’s accomplishments include, serving as the National President of Chums, Inc. from 2004-2008.  Chums is a national social, civic organization that focuses on providing educational opportunities for children.  She served as Dean of Continuing Education at The Technical College of the Lowcountry from 1992-1999. Marie was a professional corporate trainer, motivational speaker, owner of Boutique Royale & Royal Fabrics Inc. in Englewood, New Jersey, and a fashion designer of women’s coordinates and children’s clothing in New York City for twelve years.

Marie is very active in the Beaufort community and has served on several boards, including Salvation Army, YMCA, Historic Beaufort Foundation, Penn Center, Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce and The Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce.

Marie has received several awards including two Kentucky Colonel Awards from two different Kentucky governors, Professional Business Women of the year, Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award, and the South Carolina State Resolution Award from the General Assembly, awards from both chambers, just to name a few.

Marie is married to Ron Lewis and is the mother of two grown children and five grandchildren.
